Awareness of breath

Awareness of breath offers such a simple invitation into meditation, one that also invites a depth in our experience of life. Too often breath meditation is taught simply as a way to focus, to concentrate, to cut out the noise. It can be, yet the breath is also an opportunity to bring us into realising our presence, to connect to the vitality of life, and to open our sensibility to spacious awareness. Sensitivity to our breath offers a mirror to our mind – through awareness of the breath we can open to the possibility of life, moment by moment.

Over this six weeks you will be invited into a series of inquiries into the breath, from mindfulness of breathing and the breath as an invitation into presence, to more subtle, deeper exploration of your energy body, where the breath arises and goes, and the relationship between the personal and more global sense of breath and breathing, the dance between form and formless. You’ll be challenged to take each inquiry into your week - to bring meditation into the midst of your daily life.

Thinking is addictive!

I don't know about you, but my thinking mind can be a pain! Sure, it has its uses. Yet it thinks it rules the show - yes it is quite self-referential too! Over and over and over my chattering mind jumps into what would otherwise be the beautiful simplicity of the present moment. The content of those thoughts are irrelevant. Their range is huge. What is common to them all is taking me away from being with what is actually here. They distract, they provoke hyper-reactivity, close down possibilities, provoke fears and most importantly, they are addictive. Thinking is addictive. If you don’t believe me, try and give it up!

One summer I committed to a process in which, whenever I noticed myself thinking about this or that - anything other than what was needed in this moment - I'd bring my attention to the breath, let the thought subside and come back to what was happening and needed 'now'. It was magical. It freed me up from unhelpful ruminations and 'noise' - life felt clearer.

As long as we are alive the breath is available to us and is a beautiful way into realising our presence, and to freeing us up. The breath is such a simple invitation into the depths of experiencing life.

How it works

A Zoom based course suitable both for those new to meditation and to those wanting to explore their practice further. Each session will involve a meditation around 30 mins in which you can sit, stand, walk or stay in bed! Wherever you want to be. We tend to have cameras off so you really can be with your experience where you are.

People say ...

"You have a wonderful gift of making the complicated sound simple, and of doing it in such a non ego like way... It’s really excellent."

“Meditation with Will on a Monday morning gives me an anchor, holding to the theme he uses to open up possibility." (LW)

“Will's Monday morning meditation is, in fact, a gateway to communication with oneself in service of finding the gap, the silence between thoughts, and the creation of new possibilities. Since joining, my sense of clarity and the creation of inner peace has significantly improved, for which I am eternally grateful. The sessions also allow me to reflect and connect deeply with my true self. The practice further encourages me to be mindful and promotes my personal growth, making it a valuable start to the week with intention.” (MS)

Add your details to the registration form below and you'll receive an email straight away containing the Zoom access details we'll use for all 6 sessions.

Cost

There is no cost for these sessions and instead I ask, if you are able, that you make a donation to a charity. It’s hard to choose a charity right now. A charity that touched my heart through a personal connection is the Linda Norgrove Foundation – they are not claiming to change the world, they are simply offering what they can for young women and families in Afghanistan.

You can donate to them here: https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/17495#!/DonationDetails

Or perhaps you prefer a different charity.
