Coach supervision matters as a unique space to explore your work as a coach in service of the people you work with. I hold individual and group supervision sessions to explore, examine, play and be with who you are as a coach, the coaching relationships you form, the energy you offer, and the skills you use.
I see supervision as offering a place to nourish and resource, a place to explore and learn, as well as a place to check in our professional integrity.
We all need spaces where we can be vulnerable, stuck and unsure. In the coaching profession we can find ourselves locked into using particular skills, holding unhelpful assumptions and beliefs, playing out old patterns in our relationships, grappling with professional and ethical dilemmas, and can find ourselves losing energy.
My supervision can move between being light, open, fun, embodied, playful, still, creative, spacious, experimental, vulnerable, warm, and shifting between surface and depth. I love to work in the dance between the cognitive, emotional and somatic experience, as well as how we move in and out of the awareness that connects us to the mystery of life.
My supervision work has been described as 'simple yet deep' while being 'authentic, spacious, inquiry driven and warm-hearted'. I insist on a commitment to being present together, on learning from our relationship, and on a willingness to embrace your open, spacious sense of embodied self.
Generally I work by Zoom, though face-to-face appointments are an option if you’re in the far south west of England.
Supervision for those in early stages of the profession
Setting out as a coach isn't easy. You may feel moments of vulnerability, question what you are doing, wonder if you are getting it right. I start with the assumption that you are already enough, rather than lacking something. My Broaden your Range group supervision creates a space safe for coaches to share vulnerability, explore challenges, and to broaden their range by learning from the collective wisdom of the group. Please contact me to find out about my next group.
Supervision groups for experienced coaches and supervisors.
In service of who you are and the work you offer, the intention of Being with the Unknown is to create and commit to a space in which we explore the unknown, uncertain, and emergent from a place of generative and collective awareness. If we knew what this space would bring to us, we wouldn’t be entering with the openness of inquiry that will be the very quality of the offering. Please contact me to find out about my next group.
“Working with Will has been transformational. I wouldn’t have a successful coaching business today without his supervision. Will creates a space for open and honest reflection, and offers perspectives and activities that always seem to do the job. The two words that sum up our sessions are 'courage' and 'compassion.' I highly recommend him as a supervisor.” (NM)
“Will Medd is an exceptional coach supervisor who holds a powerful, supportive space for deep exploration. His genuine care for clients and rich toolbox of reflective practices have been invaluable in enhancing my growth and development. I highly recommend him to any coach seeking thoughtful and impactful supervision.” (GC)
“There is something about Will that gives me full permission to bring myself and my challenges warts and all – I feel like I really can share anything and it will be held with curiosity and kindness; the expression “deeply human” comes to mind. Will has the ability to relate on a deeply human level; in our supervision I feel like I really can share anything and it will be held with curiosity and kindness. The safe space he holds really supports my thinking and I find our sessions really valuable.”

“Will gives space for wonderings, unpacking, curiosity and laughter. Such an important support for me as I navigate my way through my coaching and supervision work, but also through my own life.” (WR)
“Will holds the session gently as he partnered with us in the exploration of what else there might be as we venture into the unknown. Whilst there was always a philosophic resonance throughout our sessions I would always go away with something practical to take back to my coaching practice or life in general. The unconventional approach was refreshing, thought provoking and highly enjoyable and I greatly valued being in a space with other coaches who ‘looked beyond’ as a way to heighten their coaching practice. It seems so relevant to reflect on the unknown and how we can still be centred in this time of global upheaval and unrest.” (HB)
My early experiences of receiving coach supervision felt as if I was being coached; the focus was on practical aspects such as what I wanted from the coaching, what my goals were for coaching. It was helpful in reflecting on why I wanted to coach, and on my interest in unlocking self-imposed restrictions.
Later, when enrolled on the Coaches Training Institute’s certification process, the supervisors focused on listening to my coaching sessions and giving ‘feed forward’ on developing my key skills and meta-skills. This was powerful for me in recognising where I could expand my range as a coach and managing the energy I bring into coaching sessions.
As I developed my coaching work I grappled with what I felt was a slight tension between teaching mindfulness (with its emphasis on now) and coaching (with the onus on moving forward). I sought a supervisor who was familiar with this and found Ian Mackenzie. With him I realised the deeper work involved in coaching and the importance of understanding the coaching relationship, including its dynamics and who I am as a coach. This lead to me training with the Coaching Supervision Academy, exploring deeper the notion of ‘who I am is how I coach’, and I continue that exploration as a Faculty member.
I still work with Ian as my supervisor nearly 10 years on. Why? Because that on-going relationship provides accountability over time, with vigilance to notice any reversion to old patterns, all in service of the work I offer.
If you’re a coach and would like to talk about individual or group supervision with me, please get in touch.
